Slate Edge Credit Card℠ Review

The Chase Slate Edge® Credit Card rewards cardholders who pay their bills on time, offering the chance of an increased credit limit after six months and at least $500 in spending, as well as a reduced interest rate – up to a two percentage-point reduction per year.

New account holders will also get a 0% introductory APR for the first 18 months on purchases and balance transfers. A variable APR of 20.49% to 29.24% applies to balance transfers and purchases after the introductory period ends. The card doesn’t charge an annual fee.

  • Cash Advance FeeEither $10 or 5% of the amount of each transaction, whichever is greater.
  • Foreign Transaction Fee3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars

  • Like the idea of earning a lower interest rate with good payment behavior.
  • Don’t spend a lot but can meet the card’s spending requirements.
  • Aren’t interested in earning rewards on your everyday spending.

Because there are no rewards, there’s not much strategy to using this card other than practicing good credit habits: just pay your bill on time and try not to carry a large balance. Since those are the building blocks of strong credit, this card can be helpful if you need to build or rebuild credit. If you’re already a responsible credit user, you may want to choose another card that rewards you somehow.

Editor’s Take

The Chase Slate Edge® Credit Card has no bells and whistles other than encouraging you to make small purchases and pay on time. The incentive is an increased credit limit and a lower APR. It’s a good practice card, in that if you build strong credit habits, you can eventually graduate to a rewards or cash back card that offers additional value.
