As we walked in from the valet circle, the hotel’s reception area greeted us with calming gray hues displayed in various textures on the desks and walls. The artwork behind the front desk was created by Haw Creek Forge and represents the French Broad River, which runs through Asheville. Guest rooms have smaller iterations of this artwork above the headboards.

A daily social hour happens in the seating area next to check-in, with complimentary wine, beer and light bites for the grown-ups as well as juice boxes and kid-friendly snacks for younger travelers. Guests can play DJ with the house vinyl collection or bring their own records to spin.

The hotel’s commitment to local art and culture starts in the spacious lobby and extends to the guest rooms. Textual wall art and larger-than-life leaves above the elevators immerse you in the mountain vibes of the region.

The main on-site eatery, Bargello, serves Mediterranean-inspired fare for dinner Wednesday through Sunday, daily breakfast and weekend brunch. Menu highlights include housemade pasta and grilled octopus.

District 42 is this Kimpton’s bar and lounge, which provides a large patio facing out on Pack Square for excellent people-watching. Here you will find creative cocktails, hearth-fired pizzas and shareable plates.

Studio king suites have all the amenities of other room types, with floor-to-ceiling windows and immersive city and mountain views. A partition between the bed and living area sets this space apart and displays locally commissioned vessels from Lexington Glassworks, Nick Moen and East Fork Pottery.

Guests can take in downtown Asheville’s sites on two wheels with access to house bicycles by the front desk. The River Arts District Greenway is a bit more than a mile from the hotel and boasts its own bike path dotted with outdoor sculptures and murals along the French Broad River.

We thought the massive leaves deserved a closer look. Hanging in the elevator bay between the two lobby spaces, it’s worth the neck-craning. All artwork throughout the hotel, from the lobby to the guest suites, was commissioned specifically for the space by local artists.

The double queen rooms feel larger than their 377 square feet, with floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious walk-in showers. In addition to the expected bathrobes and slippers, all rooms include a yoga mat and umbrella for use during your stay.

Mountain view suites have a shower and separate soaking tub. Ample windows bring in natural light and offer views of the city and surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.

A fitness center on the third floor serves hotel guests and residents (the upper floors of the building are residential) with state-of-the-art equipment, including two Peloton bikes. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide city views while you sweat. There’s also a bowl of complimentary earbuds in case you leave yours at home.
